Community Roots Housing and GenPride have opened Pride Place, the Pacific Northwest’s first affordable residential development for LGBTQ+ seniors. The project is part of Rise Together, a campaign that raises funds for equitable housing developments in the Seattle area.

Located at 1521 Broadway at the historic site of the Eldridge Tire Company in Capitol Hill, Pride Place features 118 apartments and a 4,400-square-foot senior community center. The development welcomed its first residents in September.

Both studio and one-bedroom apartments are available to renters aged 55 and older who make either 50% or 60% of the area median income. In Seattle, that amounts to a salary of $47,950 or $57,540 for one person, respectively.

Pride Place was funded through a number of public and private investments and low-income state and federal tax credits, including funding from the City of Seattle Office of Housing, the Washington State Housing Trust Fund, the King County Housing Finance Program, Sound Transit and Fannie Mae.
