Midwest Real Estate Data is expanding its multiple listing service nationwide, giving any licensed real estate agent access to its platform and Private Listing Network. The announcement comes as the industry continues to examine how listings are marketed, the role of homeowner choice and fair access to properties outside the MLS.
Compass International Holdings has already committed to sharing its nationwide inventory of listings, including Private Exclusive and Coming Soon Listings, through MRED’s PLN. The company will also subsidize part of the cost for the first 100,000 Compass agents who join MRED as full members.
Just last month, MRED announced it was moving toward an “open MLS” model, which would eventually allow both Realtor and non-Realtor participants to access the MLS. Under the new model, access to the MLS will still run through local Realtor associations, but they each will decide whether to offer non-Realtor options. Associations will also set their own pricing, determine access levels and decide what services or benefits are included.
“Giving homeowners choice in marketing their listings is the right thing to do,” said Compass International Holdings Chairman and CEO Robert Reffkin. “We also want to support MLSs, like MRED, that value, support and protect their customers, who are real estate agents, from retaliation by other MLSs and portals, and ensure that agents can fulfill their fiduciary duties to their home seller and home buyer clients.”
MRED CEO Rebecca Jensen, said, “MRED has been providing sellers with options and buyers with transparency through our Private Listing Network for a decade. The MLS is meant to facilitate cooperation between agents in support of their clients’ needs, not dictate marketing or business model practices. Our recent improvements in listing display options continue our goal of listening to evolving needs from our subscribers. We are thrilled to expand our service offering nationwide with Compass and hope that other brokerages also want to participate.”
