Seattle is the No. 1 city for college grads

by Emily Marek

Seattle is the top city in the country to move to after college graduation, thanks to factors like a thriving STEM industry, ample green spaces and high incomes.

Apartment Advisor analyzed 98 major cities in the United States based on cost of living, entertainment availability, mobility and overall opportunities for residents. Seattle ranked first overall, earning high scores for opportunity and mobility.

A famously walkable and bikeable city, Seattle ranked No. 8 in the country for mobility. The city also ranked No. 4 for overall career opportunities, as it’s home to tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft and more.

And while the monthly rent for a one bedroom isn’t exactly cheap at $1,778, Seattle grads make more money than their counterparts in other major cities, with the city ranking No. 3 in the country for the highest median income.

Finally, 67% of Seattle’s population has a bachelor’s degree or higher — the highest proportion in the nation — so recent college grads will find themselves in similar company in the Puget Sound region.
