Seattle is one of the best cities to move to after graduation

by Emily Marek

Seattle is one of the top cities for recent grads to relocate to, according to Apartment Advisor. The rental website analyzed the 84 largest cities in the U.S. based on rent prices, local economy and desirability to determine which area was the most friendly to recent college graduates.

Seattle ranked at No. 3 overall, behind Madison, Wisconsin (No. 1) and Minneapolis (No. 2). Seattle was followed by Atlanta (No. 4), Salt Lake City (No. 5), Pittsburgh (No. 6), Denver (No. 7), Austin, Texas (No. 8), Washington, D.C. (No. 9) and St. Louis (No. 10). But what makes these cities so well-suited for recent grads?

In Seattle, it’s due in part to the ever-growing tech scene. The Puget Sound area also has a wide variety of entertainment and dining options, as well as ample opportunities for outdoor activities (Washington is home to three national parks). Seattle is also the most educated city on the list, ranking first overall for most residents with at least a bachelor’s degree.

Overall, Seattle is a super desirable place to live — a recent Axios survey ranked Seattle the No. 1 destination college students wanted to move to after graduation. So while the rent is on the more expensive side (approximately $1,900 for a one-bedroom), college grads may be more willing to pay to experience Pacific Northwest living.
