These Seattle-area ZIP codes are the most expensive

by Emily Marek

The Seattle area is known as one of the priciest places in the country to buy a home — but even locals might be surprised to see just how high prices can get in the most expensive ZIP codes in the area.

PropertyShark analyzed residential transactions between Jan. 1 and Oct. 20 to determine the 100 most expensive ZIP codes in the country this year. Three Seattle-area ZIPs made the list.

The most expensive ZIP code in the Seattle area — and the state of Washington — is Medina (98039). The lakefront locale, home to the estates of Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, has a median sales price of $4,388,000 so far in 2023. While that’s down 8% year over year, it’s still the ninth-most expensive in the country.

The next most expensive Seattle ZIP code is just a boat ride across the bay — Mercer Island (98040). The area ranked No. 68 in the country, despite the median sales price falling 7% year over year to $2,120,000.

Bellevue (98004) also made the list at No. 96. The “birthplace of Amazon” has a median sales price of $1.85 million, down 3% year over year.

These pricey Seattle-area ZIPs weren’t the only ones with annual decreases in sales prices, though: Seventy out of 122 ZIP codes on the list (due to 18 ties) saw price drops this year.

The priciest ZIP code in the U.S. was Atherton (94027) in San Mateo County, California, where the median sales price is $8.3 million.
