Seattle named one of the best summer cities of 2023

by Emily Marek

For many people, summer weather means it’s time to start traveling. But what about the summer activities you can do locally, without hopping on a plane?

Using criteria like availability of nature spaces and recreational activities, weather, affordability and more, Apartment Advisor analyzed 87 large U.S. cities to determine which offers the best opportunities for a local summer packed with outdoor fun.

Seattle ranked at No. 4 on the rental website’s list — despite the Puget Sound area’s rainy reputation, summer is Seattle’s dry season, so the area sees mostly sunny days from June through September. The metro also scored third overall for recreation, with numerous parks, walking and hiking trails and local music festivals for residents to enjoy.

Seattleites also have ample access to water, making the city ideal for summer activities like boating, scuba diving or snorkeling.

Finally, Seattle ranked No. 7 overall for urban accessibility, meaning it’s relatively easy to get around from one part of the city to another.

Here’s the full list of Apartment Advisor’s top 10 summer cities:

1. Salt Lake City
2. Boise, Idaho
3. San Francisco
4. Seattle
5. Reno, Nevada
6. Portland, Oregon
7. Sacramento, California
8. Madison, Wisconsin
9. Denver
10. Minneapolis
