Seattle is one of the cities with the highest share of luxury listings

by Emily Marek

Seattle has the seventh-highest share of luxury listings of any large city in the country, according to Point2Homes.

The real estate analysis company analyzed active listings in the 30 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S., identifying the percentage of homes listed for over $1 million and $5 million. In Seattle, homes with list prices over $1 million account for 34.3% of all homes on the market — the seventh-highest share of any large metro in the country.

At 2%, the metro also ranks seventh overall when it comes to the percentage of homes listed for over $5 million.

Los Angeles tops Point2Homes’ list, which isn’t surprising, given that the median home price there is $926,000. But the Southern California metro also has the highest share of homes priced over $5 million, at 11.6%. New York, however, has the largest quantity of luxury homes on the market — nearly 7,400 — despite having a lower overall percentage of luxury listings than L.A.

Conversely, the big U.S. cities with the smallest shares of luxury listings also have some of the lowest median home prices: in Detroit, where the median home costs $75,000, only 1% of all listings sold for at least $1 million.
