Washington ranked one of the best states to raise a family

by Patrick Regan

Washington is one of the best states in the country to raise a family, according to a new report from WalletHub

To arrive at its rankings, WalletHub measured states in 51 metrics that fell into five categories: education and child care; health and safety; socioeconomics; affordability; and family fun.

Washington ranked No. 12 overall and was fifth for affordability and eighth for family fun. The Evergreen State scored well in most categories but was hurt by its relatively high child care costs.

The top states to raise a family were, in order: Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota and Vermont.

Mississippi was at the bottom of the rankings, along with New Mexico, West Virginia, Louisiana and South Carolina.
