After 19 years in the industry, Iain Mourer knows how to prepare a complete loan file to expedite approvals, with the members needs in mind. With skills in communication and client education, Mourer stays available to partners and members 24/7 to ensure a seamless homebuying experience.
Mourer first joined the mortgage industry after becoming friends with an agent who owned their own brokerage business. He was able to help his friend grow his book of business while learning the ropes of the industry, but he also fell in love with helping people with such a huge part of their lives. Mourer is a true Seattle native, having grown up in Madrona and currently living in South Seattle with his wife and three young children.
Prior to working as a mortgage advisor, Mourer worked as a server and bartender in the Leschi neighborhood in Seattle. “Working in the service industry, you learn a lot about how to interact with people,” he says. “Every interaction is different, just like in mortgage lending, and you have to be able to do so while oftentimes being under pressure to handle multiple tasks at once, just like mortgage lending.” Mourer works with many types of borrowers, including first-time homebuyers, members relocating and those looking to refinance. His passion is helping BECU members throughout the entire mortgage process, making himself available to answer all pertinent questions involved in financing a home.
While Mourer admits that mortgage lending is physically a lot easier on his body than bartending, he still works tirelessly to ensure his clients’ needs are being met. “I feel that my ability to listen to my clients is the most critical component to my success,” he says. “I make sure that I spend a good amount of time before any application is taken out to fully understand what my clients are wanting to do.”
When not working, Mourer enjoys playing soccer, sailing and spending summers at the beach with family.
