A depth of knowledge gained from 36 years in lending sets Mary Woodbury apart from the competition. As a top-producing mortgage advisor with BECU, Woodbury works tirelessly to secure loans that suit borrowers’ individual needs. “Tenacity is my superpower,” she says. “I hate the word ‘no’ and do my best to overcome it and turn it into a ‘yes.’”
Woodbury’s family has been in the Seattle real estate market since the Depression. Her grandfather founded MacPherson’s Real Estate in 1932, and her Realtor mother is among the first female general contractors in the state of Washington. Woodbury herself became a Realtor and joined the family business in 1982 but left shortly afterward to raise a family. For most of her career, she was a single mom raising two fine boys on a 100% commission-based income and achieving success on both fronts.
In the past year, a jump in rates and lack of inventory disrupted the mortgage industry. Woodbury has lived through market swings before and was able to adjust to the new market quickly.
“Guiding borrowers through the change in the market and helping them keep their goal of homeownership in the forefront has been a big accomplishment,” she explains. “Keeping them positive when they’ve submitted 10 offers and failed to win the bid to buy a home is a major ‘win’ for me.” Still, when it was necessary, she managed to close loans in less than 20 days and make borrowers’ dreams of homeownership come true.
Woodbury’s attention to detail, excellent communication, and ability to make the loan process seamless continue to earn her rave reviews from clients and agents. A good listener, she focuses on meeting clients’ wants and needs, always making sure that clients feel heard and understood. It’s a skill she honed working as a ski patroller at Beaver Creek in Vail, Colorado — a job that once had her guiding Robert Redford through the slopes.
