Seattle is the No. 2 city in the country for women, according to a new study from WalletHub.
The finance website analyzed 182 of the most populated U.S. cities and ranked the Emerald City No. 7 for women’s economic and social well-being and No. 11 for women’s healthcare and safety — making it the second-best city in the country, second only to Columbia, Maryland.
“Living in the right city can significantly improve a woman’s economic status, health and safety,” said WalletHub analyst Milvionne Chery. “The best cities for women offer job security and high pay, enabling women to achieve greater financial independence.”
Specifically, in Seattle, only 11% of women live below the poverty line — the 23rd-lowest percentage of any big city in the country. Furthermore, only 3.5% are without health insurance, the 10th-lowest rate in the country.
Meanwhile, Seattle women have the 19th-highest wages (when adjusted for cost of living). Seattle also has fewer rates of sexual crime than most cities and lower than average rates of female suicide.
Tacoma ranked No. 23 in the country, placing No. 22 for economic and social well-being and No. 57 for healthcare and safety.
