What’s up at the Women’s Council of REALTORS® Seattle Metro

by Michele Hunt

The Women’s Council of REALTORS® was established over 80 years ago because, at that time, women were barred from attending many local REALTOR® associations, so a “women’s division” was formed. The vision statement: The Women’s Council of REALTOR®S is recognized as the voice for women in real estate and the premier source for the development of leaders in the industry, organized real estate and beyond.

The Women’s Council of REALTORS® Seattle Metro serves the Greater Seattle & Eastside areas, and welcomes all REALTORS® and affiliates — new to the industry to seasoned professionals. We provide opportunities for leadership development, education, community service and networking opportunities.

The educational “lunch and learns” have a range of topics such as legislative issues, sales skills, marketing and economic forecasts. We also have fun networking events like wine tasting, fashion shows and happy hours. The next event is May 25 with a Mother’s Day theme of mother/daughter teams. Other upcoming events include: June — Chelsea Peitz (Instagram); July — CPA, tax tips; and a food drive in August.

We’ve had several volunteer days with Mary’s Place, and Raising Girls is another organization we are supporting. Collecting needed items for both organizations is a way our members can continue to give back.

Women’s Council of REALTORS® is a supporter of the REALTORS Political Action Committee. We advocate for private property rights, housing affordability and fair housing, among other issues. Peer support, education, leadership opportunities, training and advocacy are some of the many things that Women’s Council of REALTORS® offers its members.
