‘Greenest States to Move to in 2023’ study praises Washington for its eco-friendly policies

by Patrick Regan

Washington was named one of the five states with the greenest government policies, according to the new Greenest States to Move to in 2023 report.

The report from House Method measured states on air, soil and water quality, state policies and eco-friendly initiatives, such as the use of renewable energy. Data was pulled from WalletHub, Consumer Affairs and various environmental agencies.

Washington was cited for its use of renewable energy and its eco-friendly policies, including efforts to reduce greenhouse gasses by 95% by 2050.

“This act sets emission limits, creates incentive programs and funds investment in renewable energy technology,” the report said. “Under this program, in 2020, Washington had 90% of its electricity come from renewable energy sources, the chief of which was hydroelectric power at 66%.”

Other states praised for their overall eco-friendly policies were Vermont, Oregon, New York and California. Wyoming was No. 1 for air quality. Hawaii was rated best for soil quality. California topped the lists for water quality and solar power usage.
