James C. Young III, Vice President, Mortgage Lending

Guaranteed Rate Affinity

Clients describe James C. Young III as charismatic, easygoing and always ready to go to bat for them. “I understand how stressful the homebuying process, especially the financing portion, is,” says Young, vice president of mortgage lending with Guaranteed Rate Affinity. “I approach my customers from a position of caring and compassion to help ease their mind during one of the most stressful things we do in life: buy a home.” Based in Kent, he is licensed in 10 states: Washington, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

At his previous job as vice president of operations for a consumer electronics company, Young constantly developed agile solutions to complex problems, just as he does in the mortgage industry. When ready to exit the consumer goods field, he found lending to be a natural move. The first person he called upon starting his new career was his own loan originator, who wasn’t at all surprised by Young’s decision. Considering how well Young understood the client side of lending and managed document collection and communication during his own home purchase, the loan originator always thought he’d be a good fit for the role.

“I truly care about my clients’ well-being,” says Young. “They are not just ‘another file’; they are a family that I am helping in their journey of homeownership.”

Young is a 2024 Guaranteed Rate Affinity Production MVP, a 2020 and 2021 Scotsman Guide Top 1% Originator and a member of the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance. His master’s degree in business analytics and bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in economics, both from the University of Washington, inform his daily work. He uses that knowledge to educate borrowers about finance, bonds and how the bond market functions.
